Development of a Fluidized Bed Dryer for Drying of a Sago Bagasse

Sago is an essential source of starch for some regions in the third and developing world. However, sago processing industry has been producing a large amount waste, untreated waste usually disposed to nearest river. It not only leads environmental problem, but it illegal under Environmental Quality Act 1974. Since still high content, which 58%, can be converted value-added products such as poultry feed. before being other products, must dried remove moisture content prevent any bacteria growth ensure safety health issues have observed. Recently, drying bagasse using fluidized bed dryer (FBD) gained attention since dry rate material considerably faster compared methods. Due that reason, FBD studied computational fluid dynamic executed short period time experimental approach. The model was developed ANSYS© Fluent academic version 19.2. effect hot air feed temperature; T=50, 60, 70, 80°C velocity feed; v=1-4 m/s on sago’s behavior performance fluidization profile were studied. simulation results showed temperature would result rapid rate. Besides, optimum at T=60°C with v=4 these conditions give shorter achieve final 10% content. also added advantages reducing power energy cost supply. These optimal are very crucial should consider tend retrograded when higher applied.
